CNN Shines a Spot Light on Toledo
Toledo and Northwest Ohio’s growing reputation as the “Silicon Valley of Solar Energy” was recently featured in a one hour special on CNN.
CNN producer Sheila Steffen, visited the Toledo area in late March to record the story. She and her crew visited the First Solar facility in Perrysburg as well as Xunlight Corporation on Nebraska Avenue in Toledo. She also interviewed Mayor Carty Finkbeiner about Toledo and Northwest Ohio’s transition from a manufacturing center to a center for the research, development, and manufacturing of alternative energy components.
In the course of their discussions, Ms. Steffen told Mayor Finkbeiner that many in the alternative energy industry regarded Toledo as the “Silicon Valley of Solar Energy.” Toledo’s alternative energy facilities have been covered by publications such as “The Economist, “Newsweek”, and the “Wall Street Journal”.
“Our stature in the international business of alternative energy is growing,” said Mayor Finkbeiner. “This story - broadcast to an international audience on the best known cable news network in the world - can only help increase that stature.”
