2008 Goals and Objectives
-
Provide exceptional legal defense for lawsuits filed against the City of Toledo and employees to avoid or minimize liabilities, while reducing the cost of outside counsel by 20% over 2007.

Investigate and pursue the collection of claims for damages to City property with a goal of $100,000 collected by December 31, 2008.

Provide volunteers and participate in Citywide events in addition to continuing the Law Department’s commitment in assisting the Department of Neighborhoods with clean-ups and other beautification efforts throughout 2008.

Review all contracts and legal documents, and provide a response to City Departments seeking legal opinions within 72 hours.

Provide for the aggressive prosecution of domestic violence cases particularly where victims fail to appear. Increase convictions by ten percent (10%) over the previous year by December 31, 2008.

Pursue and collect subrogation costs owed to the City of Toledo in the amount $90,000 by December 31, 2008.

Educate city departments through quarterly seminars on topics of interest to particular departments. One topic seminar will be completed each quarter in 2008.

Defend the City by quickly and fairly resolving small claims and reducing the amount paid on such claims compared to 2007 by December 31, 2008.

Increase the collection of delinquent taxes through the efforts of the STAX Unit by an additional 5% over 2007 to be completed by December 31, 2008.

Reduce the time needed to resolve pending lawsuits filed against the City of Toledo.
