Con Men pretending to be employees of the Water Division have tried to gain access to Toledo homes. Their scam works likes this:
One or two people come to the door and state that there is a water line problem or that they need to inspect the water meter. Such impostors use this technique to gain access to the home and bilk the occupant out of cash, or to get the occupant out of the room to steal anything they can.
DON’T LET THEM IN!
Remember: Water Division employees can be identified by their uniforms. The uniforms consist of blue shirts and dark blue trousers. They will wear city logos on their clothing and identification cards bearing their photographs. If you did not request the visit, we encourage you to call Water Emergency at 419-242-5040 to verify that water personnel are working in your area.
Toledo residents can call our CUSTOMER SERVICE SECTION at (419) 245-1800, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:45 p.m., to find out if water division personnel are working in their areas.
Remember: Our employees do not solicit or return cash to the customers at their homes. Predominately, our employees report to homes at the request of the occupant or by a prescheduled appointment. However, our employees will attempt to work unscheduled pending work orders and gain access to your home for an unexpected appointment. Therefore, we recommend that you look for proper identification and city vehicle.
