You may save money on your bill with our winter averaging program. This program was developed to give customers the best possible break on their sewer billing costs. This is based on the premise that during the winter, almost all water consumed is for indoor use and goes into the sewer to be treated. During the rest of the year, much of the water is used outdoors for gardens and lawns and does not go into the sewers.
Meter readings taken between January 15 and April 15 determine the winter average for Department of Public Utilities customers. Most customers are put on winter averaging automatically. To be eligible:
- Structure must be a single-family or two-family dwelling that is billed quarterly.
- The first scheduled meter reading beginning January 15th of each year must be an actual read.
- Consumption during the winter quarter must be at least 500 cubic feet of water.
- Residents with separate seasonal sprinkler accounts or water-cooled air conditioning units are not eligible.
- Customers must have one full year history of consumption prior to winter quarter.
The winter average or less program only applies to sewer rates. If customers have a quarter in which they used less than their winter average, they will be billed for the amount used instead of the winter average. Call (419) 245-1800 if you have any questions.
