Mayor's Initiatives

Toledo PrideToledo Pride
This initiative is directly related to one of Mayor Carty Finkbeiner's priorities - installing community pride within the citizens of Toledo as well as city employees.  The goal of this program is to find creative ways to accomplish that. What started as a neighborhood clean-up is now a full blown ongoing campaign driven by a committee of about 25 dedicated city employees. Under the Toledo Pride program the group organizes community events, recognizes a Citizen and a Professional of the Month and through a marketing oriented approach searches for ways to strengthen the citizens' pride of Toledo. The Toledo Pride brand name is now well known around the community.

Young Professionals Initiative
This initiative was created to facilitate the growth, retention and possible relocation of young professionals to the City of Toledo. The Young Professionals Initia has started a resume process through which such young professionals could be connected with local businesses for employment. It is also among the committee's 2007 goals to host a job fair in conjunction with the second annual Holiday Best and Brightest Gathering for December 22, 2007 as well as a summer social event for the Best and Brightest in Toledo.

Get Fit ToledoGet Fit Toledo
Recognizing that obesity has become a national epidemic, Mayor Carty Finkbeiner created the Get Fit Toledo campaign to encourage Toledo residents to exercise, eat healthful foods, and keep themselves physically fit. To assist residents, the mayor has pledged to create 20 miles of new bicycle and walking paths in and around the city. The city is also working with area restaurants and the media to help promote healthy eating and lifestyle habits.

Live Work Create ToledoLive Work Create Toledo
Live Work Create Toledo is an initiative developed in partnership with the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo to attract the creative talents and energy of artists to revitalize Downtown and its surrounding neighborhoods. Working with real estate agents, businesses, artists, arts organizations, and homeowners in communities, the City seeks to attract artists and concentrate our existing artist population to become permanent residents and business owners in our central city.  The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo is working with the City to develop a package of tax credits, professional development opportunities, and grants and with banks to establish favorable lending terms for artists.

Dirty Dozen
The purpose of this initiative is to aggressively pursue decrepit commercial, industrial and residential properties. These are usually buildings with numerous code violations that present an immediate risk to the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Toledo. The City's efforts are concentrated on obtaining a resolution of rehab from the properties' owners or they get demolished. These buildings represent the most glaring nuisance structures in Toledo and citizens can look forward to an even cleaner, safer community in 2007 and in the future.

Deadbeat Dozen
The Deadbeat Dozen initiative is similar to the Dirty Dozen but tackles a different problem. This dozen consists of people and businesses that have borrowed money from the city, but failed to pay their loans. Under the initiative the City files lawsuits against such borrowers in an attempt to collect due taxpayers money back.

Clean Sweep Toledo
The Clean Sweep Toledo campaign is designed to provide an aggressive approach to enforce city codes against litter, illegal dumping, graffiti, house stripping and illegal parking.
