George Sarantou was elected to a second term as an at-large member of Toledo City Council on November 8, 2005. He is employed by Brennan Financial, LTD. (New England Financial,) as a Registered Representative, marketing numerous investment and insurance products to businesses, families and individuals. He is a leader in sales with many notable accomplishments and a member of the Leaders Association.

His skills in finance, as well as his passion for community service are valued assets to Toledo City Council.  As Chairman of the City’s Finance Committee he is a strong proponent of sound fiscal policies. He works cooperatively with the city administration to find solutions to budget challenges.  He is dedicated to job creation and retention through his involvement in the city’s economic development efforts.

He has been deeply involved in finding ways to control the ever- increasing cost of public utilities in Toledo.   Through his efforts locally, and working with State legislators, pressure is being placed on utility companies and the PUCO to find efficiencies that will translate into the stabilization of costs and/or savings for citizens.  He is a member of the Mayor’s Public Utilities Committee that is exploring the creation of a municipal electric utility.

He is a member of the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Government Transportation Council, a member of the Downtown Toledo Parking Authority Board of Directors and a member of the University of Toledo Urban Affairs Advisory Council.  He also serves on the WGTE Public Broadcasting Board of Trustees.

He also served on numerous community boards including the Neighborhood Health Association from 1996-2002, where he served as president of the board from 1998 to 2001,the Frederick Douglass Community Association, where he served as Board President from 1996-1998, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral where he served as the President, Board of Trustees 1991-1994, Chairman of the Greek American Festival, 1989-1993, and the Westgate Toledo Exchange Club, where he served as President in 1982. He is an active member in the Partners in Education Program for Toledo Public Schools and a reading mentor for Ohio Reads at McKinley Elementary School.

Mr. Sarantou joined New England Financial in 1982 and qualified for the Leaders Association numerous times. In 1987 he became a sales manager and achieved Agency Builders Award for Sales Manager in 1988, 1989, 1990, 1993, and 1996. He was nominated for a national Sales Manager of the Year in 1993, and his unit ranked #16 out of 125 an 1996 and #15 out of 125 in 1997 nationwide.

Councilman Sarantou is a 1970 graduate of DeVilbiss High School, and a 1974 graduate of The Ohio State University.  The father of 3 daughters Mr. Sarantou and his wife Barbara reside in West Toledo.
