Mike Craig was elected to represent District 3 on Toledo City Council on May 2, 2006. Born and raised on Toledo's East Side, he resides in the historic Birmingham Neighborhood.   He is a proud graduate of Waite High School, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toledo.  Mike previously worked as an auto title clerk at the Lucas County Clerk of Courts.

He comes from a family with strong labor ties.  His grandfather was part of the strike at the Toledo Auto-Lite plant, a pivotal moment in history that led to the right to collective bargaining and prohibited employers from interfering with the right to organize.  Honoring his grandfather's brave stand many years ago, Mike is proud to have representated the UAW as a union steward with experience in contract negotiations and grievance resolutions.

He has a lifetime commitment to the betterment of Toledo.   He has served on the Athletic Boards of the East Toledo Family Center, the East Toledo Senior Center Advisory Board, and the Waite High School Athletic Booster Board.

Craig understands that the people of the East Side and South End want a representative who will ask serious questions, be responsive to their needs, and work to ensure there is justice for the District's families and neighborhoods.

He will push to make sure progress in the Marina District continues, and is working to improve the condition of the District's neighborhoods.   He is not afraid to challenge absentee landlords who desert their properties.  He is an advocate for public safety, improved streets and curbs in District 3 as well as housing rehabilitation and housing demolition, if necessary.

He has joined with neighbors in the effort to fight crime in the Old South End.

His family owned a small business on Starr Avenue.   He knows firsthand that small businesses are the backbone of the American economy and thinks City government must help them succeed - not stand in their way.

Mike has been married to wife, Karen, for 29 years.  They have three grown children.
